Title: San Diego Union Tribune
Athens Greece declared a national state of emergency yesterday as scores of fires that killed about 49 people continued to burn out of control, leaving some villages trapped within walls of flames, cutting them off from firefighters and in some cases from firefighting aircraft grounded because of the high winds. Desperate people called television and radio stations pleading for help that they thought would never get there. “I can hear flames outside my door” one caller from the village of Adritsena told a Greek television station. Although most of the fire have been on the Peloponnesian Peninsula, new fronts emerged yesterday as dozens of fresh blazes broke out, including some blamed on arson. The country has been vulnerable to fire because of drought and three consecutive heat waves sent temperatures soaring above 100 degrees. More than 3,000 forest fires have razed thousands of wooded acres since June. The earlier fires killed nine people unfortunately. The latest spate of fires on the peninsula started Friday. Strong hot winds have spread the fires.

+ This morning I read about a woman who was run over by a lifeguard and is currently seeking changes. It happened to a French woman last year who was run over by a Coronado lifeguard while she was sun bathing. She is hoping that her lawsuit against the city gets trucks off the beach. Her name was Sarah Bouvet and she suffered injuries to her pelvic area, legs, and ankles.Sarah believes that the city of Coronado needs to start reviewing its policies on beach patrols and implement safety measures that will prevent this from happening to another person again.
+ This story I think is hardly likely to happen again, but I do believe that lifeguards should consequences because this shold NEVER happen.

This morning I read an article titled Wilson’s statue is unveiled as Latinos, gays protest. This article was about former San Diego mayor Pete Wilson’s statue being revealed in Downtown San Diego. There were many protesters, some in support of Wilson and some against him. Latino groups and gay activist were protesting against Wilson. Latino groups stated “Our message is that Pete Wilson has been about white supremacy all along. It is racist to honor this guy.” their groups help picket signs showing Wilson wearing a Nazi uniform with swastikas. Gay rights activist stated that while in office, Wilson ignored complaints about police harassment of gays and their businesses. One protester was arrested for being defiant after being told to get out of the street. A supporter of Wilson said “I want to honor Pete Wilson. He was my mayor and my governor, and he did a lot for the people of this state. Now these people down here are trying to say he is a bad man, and he's not.” about 200 private donors gave $200,000 to pay for the statue. I think that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some like Pete Wilson and some don’t. These people just need to get over it! I just hope that the statue doesn't get damaged by the people who are against him.

FROM 0 TO 50
Original Owner throws a part for her classic

Marlene Joy Achterberg was a 22-year-old teacher at Strawberry Park Elementary School in San Jose when she first saw her brand-new 1957 T-Bird convertible. It was pure white with white interior. It even had a Town and Country push-button AM radio with something called “Volumatics,” which automatically increased the radio’s volume when the car revved up and lowered the volume as the car slowed and stopped at signals. The T-Bird was pure class. As a teacher, her annual salary was $3,400. The base price was $3,408. With automatic transmission, other extras she “needed,” the out-the-door price was close to $5,000. Joy traded in her college graduation present, a 1956 Buick Sedan and her father loaned her the rest she needed. She paid him back in three years.

I think that this woman really took car of the car by the sight of the vehicle at this time. It didn’t have to be restored due to being kept in very good condition. I like that car and I hope it stays in her family.

She says she will never sell the car.

Boys accused of strangling 2 others as way out of classes. ♥
This morning I read an article on three boarding school kids who are accused of strangling 2 young boys at their school hoping to get “holidays” do to their deaths. They had admitted to their doings. They had strangled a 8 year old boy and his little brother who was 5 years old. After they had strangled the two boys they brought the boys into an unused bathroom and left them there. They weren’t found until their 9 year old sister had reported them missing. It was then when authorities found the kids in bathroom the next morning. When the kids that had did the crime were questioned, they had explain the story like they were proud of it. They had stated that they knew that that school that they were at were given a holiday because of a child's death there last year, and thought that is what would happen again. The kids were taken with Authority, and didn’t seem very upset with it in the end, and feel satisfied that they are getting their vacation after all.

Children learn what they live
Today I read an article that was based on kids and learning. When one is young, as you begin to grow you mimic everything the older ones around you seem to do. Because you don’t really know anything when you’re small and kids seem to be in a hurry to grow up. They’ll do anything you do, even if it’s not right. The reason for this is because they don’t know what wrong from right. So they depend on us, the ones around them who they usually see to do the right thing. This short poem lets us view the way society works. That if a child is raised a certain way then, they will grow you that certain way. Many times you’ll find kids who are trouble makers, and their parents seem to not understand why it is so that they act this way. But really with out knowing, or realizing that what they did years before, affects their kids as well as for them. So before you curse in front of your little brother or some kind of little kid, or do something you know isn’t right. Make sure you think twice before committing your actions, because they do copy every little thing we do, with out us even noticing. One thing I liked about this passage is that it shows us a bit on how to be a better role model for kids. One thing I learned after reading this is that if we want a better future and society to live in we need to start acting and doing the right things

Union Tribune- Al-Qaeda suspected in village attacks.
In Baghdad a suspected Al-Qaeda fighters stormed two villages near Baquba. They bombed the house of a Sunni sheik and kidnapped a group of mostly women. Seventeen villagers including seven women were killed in the assaults. 10 alleged al-Qaeda gunmen also died. 25 gunmen exploded a bomb at the house of Sheik Younis, they destroyed his home, killed him and one of his family members. Ten people were wounded including four other members of the family and passers-by. A women that was attacked did not want to give out her name in fear that they would go after her. Seven people were kidnapped. Two of the abducted men were later found shot in the head on a road leading out of town. The rest of the captives were women and their fate is unknown. Meanwhile a U.S solider was killed and four were wounded in combat. This attack occurred on Wednesday. I think that this is terrible. I think that they probably hurt the women and tortured them. I don’t think that they would find this people.
