- The San Diego union tribune
- Charity at work
- The article that I read today was about projects by father Joes villages to help low income residents, homeless. People know father Joe Carroll as the roly-poly priest asking for donated cars to support his St. Vincent de Paul village. They may not know his emerging persona. Father Joe downtown developer. The ubiquitous catholic clergyman is in the middle of a building boom. A $73 million low-income apartment project under construction at 16th and market streets. Now Carroll wants to knock down a converted warehouse at his 15th and commercial campus. He wants to put up a 12 story tower for homeless transitional housing. Plus more low income apartments and a children's center. The price tag is $43 million.
- I think that this article is pretty interesting. I think that it is amazing how he helps out a lot of people. That is why he has been so successful.
- One interesting thing that I learned is that he wants to build homeless housing.

Charity at Work.

Father Joe Carrol is a priest that has been doing a tremendous job at raising money for the St. Vincent de Paul Village. Father Joe is in the middle of creating a 73 Million low-income apartment project on 16th and Market streets. He also wants to knock down a converted warehouse at his 15th and Commercial streets campus and put a 12 story tower for homeless transition housing, more low-income apartments and a children's center. Instead of the usual 6 by 8 foot dorm rooms separated by ply wood that look like cubicles in an office, they will receive a 15 by 15 room with actual walls. Homeless men will be able to live there for up to two years.

I think Father Joe is doing a great job at helping the homeless. As long as they have a place to sleep at night for 2 years, i am pretty sure they can find a way to get back on their feet to get a job and live a better life. I've also imagined an idea like this, and i am happy that Father Joe could actually do something like this. Especially 12 story housing. Hopefully this will change the environment a lot.

Paying for college through rebates?
There has been a new website created that covers the cost of college thru other expenses made. This new web page is called Uprmomise.com In order to save into your account for college you have to shop at different places then usual. For example instead of going to a gas station you would normally go to you need to get gas at Mobil or Exxon stations. Another requirement for the rebate you would have to make some online offers. Everything you pay for must be thru a credit card. But my question is how do they know if they can trust these people with their credit card accounts. And what is the guarantee that the money they pay with is used as a rebate. I would really like to learn more about this because I myself need to start saving for my college as well. If this is really what they say it is then it’s a great idea to save for college.

11-year-old driver, parents face charges. In Boutte, Louisiana an 11-year-old boy led police on a chase Friday. It reached speeds of more than 100 mph. His parents are accused of letting him drive for months, state police voiced. Leona Calloway and Rodney Brown were charged with improper supervision of a minor. They were also charged with allowing an unlicensed minor to drive. Officials booked the boy on suspicion of felony flight from an officer, reckless driving, speeding, passing on the shoulder, improper lane use, and having no license. Neither the parents nor the boy were jailed, and the boy was released to his aunt.
I think because of the boys actions he is going to start plotting himself to go down a very bad road. What were his parents thinking; he is only eleven. He very well might end up a juvenile delinquent.
It is an interesting factor that the boy was unidentified because of his age.

Shot in the head killed dead

Ivan Ortiz Wednesday was shot to death maybe by a gang member. His brother says that he was on his way to the store and he might have seen some kids hanging out in front of Citrus park. Then later that night some couple found that kid dead shot in the head. His mother states very clearly that his son was never involved with gangs but with skater kids. All of his friends miss him deeply. With a lot of passion.

GUILTY PLEAS WILL SPARE CAPTIVES FROM TESTIFYING

Michael Devlin, the man accused of kidnapping and sexually abusing two kids in 2002, is pleading guilty this week. This big internationally known case was now brought to an end. Devlin now faces more than 80 felony charges in three Missouri counties, and would face several life sentences if convicted. In the beginning, Devlin pleaded not guilty to these charges, but changed his mind. Today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, hearings are going to be held for the charges in all four jurisdictions. Devlin will be sentenced on six charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, and forcible sodomy. The victim, Shawn, lived with Devlin, telling neighbors he was the man’s son. He did this because he was on the run.

I think that this man should get the death penalty. If it doesn’t happen to him sooner, it will happen later. I think this man is really evil.

Devlin has been arrested since January 12.

More companies based in Mexico are opening shops in the U.S:
In the article I have read it was about Mexico's growth in business stores in the United States. At least five other well known Tijuana’s businesses opened in San Diego county over the past year. People were asking Miguel Rivera how did he PLOT to expand his taco shop all over San Diego. Luis Valdivia a board member of San Diego county Hispanic commerce said many of his taco shops were demanded for “authentic” Mexican goods. Some of the Mexican entrepreneurs have been motivated to open business in San Diego county for safety reasons.
I think that it is very cool that people recognized Miguel's work and how he had got his own taco shop to expand over the year. He must be doing a good job in the way he manages his business because the records show that people enjoy his foods and how he manages. It is also cool that the Hispanic county help him push his business and let his VOICE be heard.
An interesting FACTOR about this article was that his taco shop was expanded in a year.

MY OPINION ON THIS IS THAT THE MAN SHOULD GET THE DEATH PEMALTY AND GET KILLED. VEN THOUGH HE IS GOING TO PROBLABLY GET KILLED IN PRISON FOR WHAT HE DID. THEY SHOULD JUST GO ON AND GIVE HIM THE DEATH PENALTY

I was reading an article in the newspaper that caught my eye. I was reading that after the earthquake in Peru a lot of things got destroyed. Many churches monuments and historic buildings crumbled. About 60 of these got destroyed by the 7.9 earthquake. The five story embassy hotel got ruined killing 15 people. More than one hundred important buildings are damaged and in bad shape. More than 85% of the buildings in the epicenter of the quake got ruined. But, that is not what called my attention. I was reading that Peruvian officials are urging tourists to visit Peru. That way they help the economy of Peru to gat back on its feet and help its country to reconstruct the damaged areas. Yet, the factor that really surprised me was that US officials are strongly advising against visiting Peru. I had to voice my disappointment in the US to dissipate the good intention of some people that want to help those in need. The article does not say why the US is asking people not to travel to Peru.

Amputee agrees to stop driving in face of prison time ♥.

This morning I read an article base don a time when nothing could keep Michael Francis Wiley from behind the wheel, not even a triple amputation that makes simple tasks suck as tying a shoe impossible. Police who arrested Wiley so many times that it made it a felony for him to drive but that still did not stop him. But he is now at the end of the road and Wiley is scheduled to face a judge tomorrow for sentence ing on a new round of felony charges. Wiley is being charged for traffic and drug possession. Prosecuters want to put him in prison for atleast five years and this time Wiley says he's going to turn in his keys for good. Wiley lost his arms and most of his left leg in a 1980 accident when he was only thirteen years old. He learned to live without limbs. He taught himself to drive without arms. He starts the car with his toes, shifts with his knee, and steers with the stumb of his arm. He turns on the light with his teeth. Driving, he said, is one of the few things that lets him feel free and exert his independence. He says that he's an excellent driver and that it's one of the things he's good at all by himself.

Reflection♥.
This article was interesting from start to finish, it's amazing how someone who does not have any limbs manages to drive and cause trouble driving at the same time.

Union Tribune: VA hospitals end sharing data on cancer patients.
Today I have read this short article. In every state, investigators were getting reports form every hospital describing every cancer patient they had seen. The data includes: the name, address, age, race and medical history of patients. This is used to compile cancer rates. They are used to investigate survival and other issues such as unusual cancer clusters and whether patients experiences are different depending on their racial or economic group. Most hospitals are required by state laws to submit the data but Veterans Affairs are not. The Veterans are protecting their patients privacy. I think that this is good that they are taking a stand because this patients were not even asked if they could share their information. I wonder if the patients could file a lawsuit against them because it is invasion of privacy. I thought that hospitals could not give out patient information to anyone.
