Drivers barred from smoking if children are in car
In Sacramento, California there ahs been another law prohibiting smokers to light a cigarette in a car with a kid under 18 years of age. Anyone who is found violating the new law with be sited a $100 fine. This new law was signed in permission of the governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who also agreed in passing this new law. Arnold also gave permission of other laws based on those who have and are military. Those that are from other countries but stationed here in California the same low rates for any community college or university. The new law prohibiting smoking is so that parents could see the harm of second hand smoke. By passing this law they wish to keep parents from smoking around young children causing them lung cancer at early ages of life. A cancer survivor, who parents smoked states that she hopes that parents themselves will take in notice the harm they are placing on their child when they smoke around them. She also says that hopefully this will help parents from smoking as much as they do. I believe this a great new law to be passed. Many parents smoke around there kids like if its nothing which is very bad. Hopefully parents will see the danger they are giving their kids.

The declaration of the native people is about people being able to maintain there own institutions. Other countries voted against the constitution because they said there would be less work for citizens. The united nations are supposed to be keeping the peace. Then the United Nations should give the native people there land instead of keeping them away from it.

San Diego Union Tribune:
The article I read today was about UAW members going on strike in Auburn Hills right before the agreement on a four year contract between the automaker and the union was announced. There was said to be a guarantee that vehicles will be produced at U.S factories. A company funded union run trust that it will pay 18$ billion in long term retire health care costs and lower wages for newly hired workers. The person who requested remained anonymous because the contract has not been ratified with union members. The new lower wage scale, the source said Chryslers motor parts will be replaced .

Reflection: I think that it is wrong that some workers are going to be losing there jobs. I think it isn't fair because the workers could have been working there for a while but now have to leave because a contract they don’t agree on. It was a good idea that they picketed on what they believe even though they didn’t help out much.

Interesting Fact: An interesting fact is that Chrysler signed a contract for the union workers. That is interesting because Chrysler makes a lot of money and they still made a contract with the union.

HOMICIDE-FREE STREAK AT 5 WEEKS

Today i read about how there hasnt been any killings here in san diego in five weeks. Biggest respite between killings this citys longest in 5 years. It has been 36 days since someone has been slain in San Diego- the longest stretch in 5 years. Its something homicide detectives are reluctant to talk about. They say they dont want ti jinx anything, detective Rooney said. Roony has his fingers crossed, but hes well aware that the next slaying problably isnt far off. "Its a welcome break for us- and for the city." Roony said. that is pretty nice for a city of 1.3 million people. The last homicide case in 2007, number 42 occured september 4 when Linda brown,41, was shot dead in Bay Terraces. Her estranged husband was wounded in a confrontation with police and was chargerd for murder. In october 2002, the city went 39 days without a homicide. That year there was 47 homicides. The longest gap between homicides in San Diego is something Roony is researching, going through yellowed and frayed files.

To me this is pretty good beause i live in san diego and if there hasnt been any homicides everything is going good and calm. this should keep going on but i know that someone is going to kill someone soon for some reason.

There hasnt been a murder in 36 days in san diego.

- The San Diego Union Tribune
- Educator called a difference maker
- The article that I read today was about a teacher who is really helpful. Her name is andee aceves. In the article it says that San Altos elementary school teacher Andee Aceves wouldn’t give up on Joey Melendez. It never even entered her mind. the boy who has autism became discouraged last year after the special education aid who helped him in the classroom became ill. “I cant do it. I have a disability. I'm different you know,” were his usual responses to any difficult assignment. Aceves who on Saturday was named one of five San Diego county teachers of the year refused to let Joey, 9, use his disability as an excuse to fail. The high energy teacher kept working with him. By years end Joey had been rated proficient in the annual state testing and won an academic medal. He made friends and even participated in a school play.
- I think that this article is motivating. I think that it is good that we have teachers like this who really help us. I hope that teachers get this as a motivation to kind of be like her. Because sad fully there are teachers who kind of give up on the students.
- One interesting thing that I learned is that Aceves is the first from her family to graduate college and for that matter high school.

I was reading this interesting article in the newspaper about a German scientist, Gerhard Ertl, that just won the Nobel prize in chemistry. It was his 71st birthday when he received a call from the Swedish Academy of Sciences to let him know he had won the prize. They asked him to keep it a secret for 25 minutes then he could call his wife and give her the news. Ertl said that it was the best birthday present ever. He won the Nobel prize because he specializes in molecular studies. His research is directed to the composition and reaction of molecular gases. His composition consisted of how the molecules of gas behave when they land on solid surfaces. This type of work is a break through in sciences to make things more green. For example this type of studies can make cars more eco friendly, make corrosion-proof metals, better computer chips and more fertile fields. This can all be a contribution in making safer and cleaner materials to use.

Man shot by cops after chase in august dies. A mentally ill man was shot by S.D.P.D. after a high speed car chase in august. Well, that man has died now. His name was Alan Kosakoff, and he was exactly 35 years old. He died at the San Diego Hospice last week. He was apparently shot in the head and the leg. He was unable to recover from head trauma. Family members say Alan had not been taking his psychiatric medications when police tried to pull him over for a traffic violation, on august 25th. He didn’t stop and led officers on a chase before pulling into his mothers garage, where he allegedly tried to run over two cops, the police assume.
I think they shouldn’t have shot at him for that. However, maybe it was for the better because he could’ve have been someone to cause real problems. But either way it happened, and what’s done is done.
I found it interesting how he lived until recently.

Drivers barred from smoking if children are in car.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed another bill that prevents drivers from smoking in the car with passangers under 18 in the car. Drivers will be fined $100.00 if caught smoking in the car. The law is to help prevent second hand smoking. This law should send smokers a message of when to and when not to CONSUME smoke around their children. Parents need to set a good ROLE as a parent towars their children and respect their health.

Im happy this law is being forced because i cannot stand it when people smoke in the car and the ashes fly everywhere or i smell the smoke when i have a headache.

pediatric cold medincines being taken off shelves♥.

This morning I based my blog on an article about taken common cold medicines off the counter. According to the article, parentts are going to be forced to use the basic remedies for medicine because many kids' cold medicines were pulled off the market yesterday. The reason behind is was that there was a big fear of the product being misused and casuing overdose. The move was made two weeks after safety reviewers in the Food & Drug Administration urged the agency to consider a ban.

personal reflection♥.
I think that if you are going to put a medicine out on the market, that it should be well tested and labels especially, should be properly written.

interesting fact♥.
The voluntary withdrawal of many pediatric cold medicines affects only over-the-counter products labeled for infants and childer under the age of two.
